TWIGS & STICKS

CHARCOAL CONES
7TH GRADE ART WHEEL - 2016-2017 - 2ND QUARTER
charcoal on paper

Oh my,
do we have some talent in this 2nd Quarter group of 7th graders.
Let's see what they've created with the burnt remains of twigs and sticks.
The burnt remains are put into these forms by art manufactures,
pencil, conte', pastel like sticks and loosely compressed vines.
I require that my students try all four and see which they prefer.
Are they allowed to use several forms in one piece?
You betcha!

Samantha Catacutan has made a powerful fore and backdrop for her lovely cone.

And the eye loves diagonals in a work of art.
Check out the strong graphic background Amsal Ali is using in his composition.

And Sabrina Liu's piece seems to be sent from the heavens above.
What a wonderful atmospheric work she has created.

  1. Charcoal is challenging enough, but burnt sticks? Kudos to your students for pulling so many textures and details with a very simple tool set.

    1. Hey Liz, I made a correction to my opening on charcoal. It is the burnt remains but I neglected to include that they are put into several forms. Thanks for helping me to see I needed to say more. xoxox

    3. P.S. And I think it's telling that I totally assumed you had your students working with the ends of burnt sticks. Some of your assignments are similarly challenging and your students always deliver the most amazing results.
