Meet My New Beginning 3-D Students

This first quarter was all about color theory, design and learning how to sew and embroidery along with craftsmanship.  Here are my beginnings putting it all together in their sweet felt pin cushions.

Above we have senior Julia Kim with her beautifully crafted sunflower, and below are 8th grader Cassidy Cransirik and junior Daphne Chiang.

Hello Kitty was made by senior Esther Woo and next to hers is junior Bianca Tolentino.  Is it "On" or "No"????

And lastly we have juniors Alice Hong and Kaili Hamada.

Embroidered Felt Pillow Basics - Student Work

I know you met my new Beginning 3-d crop with their tye-dye pieces last month, well here are a few of their embroidery basics on sweet little felt pillows they made.  They learned about 8 different embroidery stitches, some seed and bugle beading techniques, and how to stuff and close a pillow with no knots showing.

Below we have seniors Shivanti Kariyawasam, Aparna  Vancheswaran, and Megan Machado with Aparna's close up of her front side above.  

Aren't these pieces adorable?  It was really hard to choose which ones to show off.  Above we have juniors Alice Zhang and Sheila San Agustin with junior Ashley Chowdhury and senior Sunny Cheon below.  

Which one do you like the best?  For EXTRA CREDIT on a piece of colored paper cut into a very long strip with your name and period on one side and the name of the person who made your favorite pillow from above on the other side,  roll it into a beautiful blossom like the rose above.  Secure the bloom by twining a piece of string tightly around the bottom and knot it.  You decide if it remains a blossom or spread out the petals for a larger bloom.  Give to me when you walk into room tomorrow.  

Embroidery Basics - Student Art

I have an amazing group of Beginning 3-d Art students this year who are so enthusiastic and give me so much effort on all their assignments. And this one was just a simple preliminary piece to learn several embroidery stitches. But look at these kids go! The top piece was designed and executed by senior Nicole Gomeno. Isn't she something?

In the top piece middle we have a student who did not put their name on the back side of their work (oops), we will refer to this person as no name student #1 for the extra credit opportunity coming up. And below that one we have senior Anisha Mistry with the gorgeous butterfly piece.

These next 3 on top belong to junior Lorena Morales, sophomore Rita Labib, and senior Gabby Centeno. And below is a close up of all the work Rita put into her piece. I wanted you to see her attention to detail.

The ones above belong to senior Brenda Yee, junior Noel Kim, and senior Sylvia Tran. Can you believe what I'm getting out of these kids???

And as we finished up this preliminary assignment, I also had them put together a small pillow. They weren't even required to stitch on top,but many of them did for extra credit. Starting at the top left with the grapes going clockwise we have junior Elsie Aguilar, junior Claudine Talamayan, her sister senior Liezl Talamayan, no name #2, junior Marissa Fierro, senior Catherine Aguilar, junior Noel Kim again :), and in the middle senior Shalu Singh. Way to knock this assignment out of the park you guys! For EXTRA CREDIT: cut out the shape of a stitching needle from a large piece of gray paper. Put your name and period on one side and on the other side write the name of the person whose piece you liked the best from all the ones above.

Sewing and Embrodiery Basics - Student Art

My Beginning 3-d students have been working their butts off learning how to sew and embroider so that we can move on to more challenging assignments like quiltmaking. These are their very sweet preliminary studies that actually turned out quite extraordinary. From top to bottom, left to right are seniors Ashlee Chang, Sherri Singh, Anne Guu, and Jenn Dai.

And after they finished the flat pieces they learned how to make a simple pillow. I offered extra credit if they embellished the front with more embroidery. So these belong to Ashlee Chang, senior Marisela Herrarte, junior Hillary Chan, and Anne Guu.
