BFF's FOREVER

Meet Sophie and Bogie.
They do not care for each other,
instead merely tolerate when the occasion arises.
Sophie has been known to snap at Bogie when he gets too near me or her food.
Bogie is scared of Soph big time.

Sophie belongs to Jim and I,
a rescue that we got right before we married,
so we guess she is about 13 years old now.
An older lady set in her ways,
an only child.

Bogie was dumped off at a golf course,
 we think,
because he was so incorrigible.
A very naughty boy.
See this link that inspired an art quilt in Feb. 2010.
He had Doggy Obedience school.
He flunked as did we with him.
My ex and I adopted him about 16 years ago,
and when we divorced he stayed with my ex.
He is a friendly pup and loves everybody,
even other dogs and cats,
except of course for my Sophie.
She is a meanie.
We think Bogie is a Rat Terrier with nervous energy.
Sophie, we think, is a Wheaten Terrier, Cocker, and Poodle mix,
usually very relaxed, laid back and sweet except when she sees Bogie.

Ahhh,
but look at this,
they are chilling side by side,
not touching,
 mind you,
but long enough for me to take a pix.

Ok, so what's going on here?
I've been babysitting Bogie for the past 2 1/2 weeks now
because my ex, Inars, suffered a mild heart arrest
3 weeks ago on the golf course.
His 2 best friends he was with saved his life by administrating CPR
until 911 arrived.
A detective took over from them until the ambulance got there.
Paramedics did 3 paddle shocks and 5 adrenaline shots to the heart.
Inars was without a heartbeat and oxygen for 30 mins total.
A very long time.
We were scared to death.
And Bogie needed a home.

On the exact same day my husband Jim,
yes the one who had the terrible car accident,
was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
He was having difficulty with balance and walking
(along with several other motor skills)
and fell into our sliding glass door.
Thank goodness the plants against the door broke his fall so he didn't go all the way thru the glass.
But he did hit his head and was very confused and not able to walk.
Turns out Jim had 2 brain bleeds.
One from the accident a few months ago that was slowly building up
and creating dementia like symptoms,
and a new bleed from his fall into the door.
An MRI was done and a Neurosurgeon was brought in
to immediately drill 2 holes on either side of his skull and release the fluids.
It worked!!

But more bad news.
Both men were hospitalized for over 2 weeks,
Inars also being treated for a UTI and an infectious bacteria.
We had to suit up to go into his hospital room.
He also lost all his cognitive abilities.
His name, his address, where he was.
The list was long.
My two children were with him day and night
helping him,
quizzing him until he started to remember things.
I have never been prouder of how they stepped up to the plate
to be there for him and continue to do so now that he's home.
And did I mention that he contacted Covid in the hospital too?
And that he was sent home to us infectious with that?
Again both children were there regardless if they caught it or not.
Crazy loving kids.

Jim also lost his bearings for a couple of days after brain surgery,
but actually recovered quicker mentally.
He was also diagnosed with pneumonia along with the brain bleeds.
What do they say?
When it rains it pours,
right??

The good news.
Jim is now in a wonderful Rehab center learning how to walk and balance again.
He will be coming home to me this Friday with a plan for lots of Physical Therapy
and Narcotics free.
Bogie is back home with his dad
who will be getting a defibulator as soon as his Covid is over,
and his memory is getting stronger everyday.
Sophie is an only child again.
And as you can see below,
Bogie and Sophie learned how to co-exist peacefully side by side
and have decided they can bee Best Friends Forever.
Sophie actually even gave the Bogster a kiss yesterday when I brought her over with me to check on my ex.
Life is looking up again!

A special note:
I was never alone in all of this.
Jim's amazing daughter Julie and her husband Mike
were by my side the entire time,
constantly calling doctors, checking on meds,
even feeding me a Thanksgiving dinner when I wasn't able to get out to
celebrate with my son's in-laws,
a lovely tradition that's been going on for years now.
Thank you Mike and Julie,
I could have never done this without you.

And to my two children,
Zach and Danielle.
How I love you both with all my heart.
How very much you have learned in the past 3 weeks.
All new experiences for you,
life lessons that have taken their toll on you both and your partners.
Like I said above,
I couldn't be prouder of you both,
especially how you shared the responsibilities equally.
Dad and are are so very lucky that you both are ours.

OUR LITTLEST BOY IS GROWING UP

Here was little Granger (my cutie patootie) at 8 weeks when I introduced him on July 22nd
with his Uncle Bogie,
mine and my ex's Rat Terrier.
And now here he is almost 2 1/2 months later almost all grown up.
He is weighting in at 25 pounds and the Vet thinks he will probably grow to as much as 45 pds.
But he still has his adorable puppy ways going on;
biting, chewing, almost potty trained but still having accidents and hiding his mommy's shoes.
My daughter is training him daily with the help of a real trainer who comes to the house
once every two weeks.
Blue Heelers like Granger are super smart and he is learning quickly.
He also needs at least 2 hours of daily exercise
which includes lots of running and chasing.
So my daughter takes him to dog beach at least 3 times a week when she's off work,
and then to several different dog parks everyday.
He also gets taken to his other grands every weekend to their beach house
and romps for hours on the sand with their dogs (his other Uncles).
And I can't forget to mention the puppy smoothies his mom buys him at Starbucks
as treats for when he is a good boy.
Smoothies for dogs???
What a gimmick!
ha ha
There is a ranch in Long Beach where Red and Blue Healers (Cattle Dogs)
can run for 6 minutes with a flock of sheep and practice their natural herding tendencies.
Apparently after 6 minutes they are utterly exhausted.
I can't wait to take him there.
He's already so fast.
Right now he's long and skinny,
and has passed up his Uncle Bogey.
Danielle continues to work on his socialization skills.
Ha ha
There is a couple at Dog Beach who rescue 2 legged dogs.
Here is Granger with one of those sweet pups.
Here are the two of them below the other night waiting for my daughter and I to come home.
They are sitting side by side at my ex's home facing the front door.
He took this pix and said they sat there the whole time we were out to dinner.
Way too cute!

Sophie...The Flying Dog

Faster than the speed of sound, that's Sophia Jean, riding shotgun with me to visit her boy toy, Bogie Agrums below. Recently she had a 3 day sleep over with Bogie when Jim and I went to Vegas for New Years. It was love at first sniff between the two of them, Bogie even went so far as to share his favorite chew bone with her. Now I take her over for brief visits to keep the love alive. And let me tell you it sure was no picnic shooting that pix of her leaning out the window, while holding onto her leash for dear life and trying not to drive off the side of the road. But what can I say, I can multi-task. LOL

Great News!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our pup Bogey who inspired the quilt below. LOL

Guess what? Assistant Editor, Pippa Eccles, from Quilting Arts Magazine contacted me this morning and asked to possibly feature the art quilts that she saw on my blog yesterday. Can you believe it? I'm so thrilled I could hardly contain myself all day. I'm so excited for my students works to be featured in a national magazine. Especially the one that is most important to the Art Quilt Community. Doesn't get any better than that!!! :) So congrats go out to Period 4, Beginning 3-D art. I'm so very proud of you guys!! Also wanted to tell you how excited I was to get comments from two professional fiber artists, Susan M. Hinckley and Jamie Fingal, on my student's pieces from yesterday. Wow! (both their blogs are listed to the right under artists I follow). How COOL is that!

This is an example that I made last school year where I tried really hard to stay one day ahead of my students so that they could watch me demo. all aspects of the assignment. My subject was my very naughty pup Bogey Agrums, who when we first got him was so bad that we had to bring in a dog trainer to our home to try to teach us to work with him. Did it work? Not real well, he's still to this day a handful. One of the key words we were to use when disciplining him was Bah. So that's how the title came into being. My ex-husband found him on a golf course and brought him home to us about a year and a half ago. Now I know why he was turned loose on that course. His owners couldn't handle him either. But we try our best cuz he's so cute.

My beginners are currently working on building a paper mache collaged frame to float their quilt on. And on the back side they are to include a label and hanging device.

This piece I dedicated to my last years Beginning 3-D class. EXTRA CREDIT: on a piece of blue paper cut into the shape of a heart write down the name of the student whose appliquilt from yesterdays post that you liked the best and WHY. Put your name and period on the other side of the paper

Janet Hurtado - This one's for you!

It's little Prince Bogie, fresh out of the shower where he accidently jumped in last night to see what was going on in there with my daughter Danielle. Boy, did he get a very wet surprise. :) Janet, my Ceramics student, has been hoping for more Bogie pix. Hope you like this one! EXTRA CREDIT On a piece of purple paper cut into the shape of a star, edged in green trim put your name, period and answer these questions: What are you like in a group setting, and how do you think you affect group dynamics?

Bogey's New Collar

For years I've been trying to get my daughter interested in the fiber arts, knitting, spinning, etc. but with no luck until just recently when she saw some alien creatures featured in my Vogue knitting magazine. All of a sudden she wants to know if I have any extra yarn anywhere (of course I do!) and where my crochet hooks are. I found her on youtube teaching herself how to crochet, and was thrilled. With a little help from me and the computer she is off and running, and has been crocheting day and night. Here is her first creation for our naughty pup Bogey. As you can see I wasn't able to photo him without him moving his head so sorry it's a bit blurry, but it really shows off Danielle's handwork.
