The Yarn Lady - A Summer Outing

I took Jim with me to visit one of my favorite yarn stores, The Yarn Lady in Lake Forest, and it was so fun to watch Jim fit right in with the knitter's.  Mind you these were some really liberal gals who were talking politics.

As you can see above he was trying really hard to behave himself and not disagree of offend, something really hard for my man  LOL  I was so proud of him, he only spouted off in a very gentle manner.  Phew shu, it was a close call getting him out of there.

But before we left I wanted to get a shot of these really great paper mache' figures to show my students.

An Omission

Oops, I forgot to include this shot yesterday in my post of our drive along the coast.  Of course, no matter where we go I'm always able to sniff out a yarn store, and there just happens to be a great one off the freeway going back home from Laguna called the Yarn Lady.  It's off the Lake Forest exit on the 405 freeway, real close to the Irvine Spectrum.  Well anyways, Jim is always such a good sport when I haul him into these places.  He usually attracts all the ladies or falls fast asleep, but that day it was the pups that wanted his attention.  Thanks for being so patient and good to me baby.  Love you big time!!  

Free Form Crochet Workshop

Always wanted to learn free form crochet (learned free form knitting several years ago with Valentine Devine) and last night at the Yarn Lady in Lake Forest I was able to do just that with artist/teacher Wendy Seigel.

They had at least 3 different classes going on in one evening with lots of fiber enthusiasts, plus one adorable 3 month old. They are open almost every evening with different groups meeting for spinning, knitting, feltmaking, dyeing, and other fiber related classes. I was also impressed with the quantity and quality of their yarn selection.

Wendy brought some beautiful samples with her to show and I ended up buying the middle wristlet from her. The top piece is the one she taught me with and was gracious enough to let me keep to teach my students with, and the bottom piece is the one I worked out. Both of these are unfinished and I can't wait to get back to mine and finish it up. I loved having no pattern to follow and Wendy taught me so many new tricks and turns. A really enjoyable evening. Can't wait to go back for another class and some more yarn shopping. :)
