ALUMNI KAILI HAMADA UPDATE

Recently graduated from Whitney (class of 2015),
 alum Kaili Hamada,
has already started her next journey at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu.
She is thrilled to be taking a Ceramics class
and her first assignment was to handbuild 6 pinch pots.
Here is the class having its first critique,
and below are the same trashed pots to be recycled.
OMG!!!!!!!!!!
What the f..........
Kaili told me she spent hours on the weekend
(on her own time)
in the clay studio at school
 perfecting her pots,
and now they are in the trash can.
My heart is broken.
But Kaili being Kaili secretly kept two from being canned.
That's my girl!!
And now,
guess what?
They have to make 8 more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So,
being the open minded person I am,  (hee hee)
I would love to know the instructor's rationale.
Who knows?
It might make sense...

Kaili is really looking forward to learning how to throw on the potter's wheel.
That's coming up later in the semester.
And here is a peek of the Glass Blowing facility which is connected to the ceramics area.
There are very few schools that still offer Glass Blowing anymore
and I hope Kaili takes advantage of it.
A difficult art to master but very rewarding.

Below are two fabulous examples of pinch pots from Pinterest.
Kaili sent them to me and I will be adding them to my board.
Thank you Kaili!!!

miss you
